The Hughes had just been informed they had purchased the two millionth ticket that Branson Tourism Center has sold and that, in honor of the occasion, their entire Branson vacation package was being paid for by the Branson Tourism Center. In addition, the next ten customers checking in to pick up their vacation packets each received a $100.00 Branson Tourism Center Gift Certificate.

With the check-in of Milton and Doris Hughes at its office on the morning of November 4, Branson Tourism Center (BTC) has done something that few, if any, providers of Branson travel services has ever done, sold over two million Branson show and attraction tickets. Although excited about selling two million tickets, the co-owner of Branson Tourism Center, Lianne Milton was equally excited about the way the two millionth ticket was sold.

That excitement stems from the fact that the two millionth ticket was sold the same way Branson Tourism Center (BTC) sold its very first ticket. Lianne said, “Even before our first ticket was sold our philosophy was to build BTC through personal relationships with our vendors and customers to ensure that the customer had a great experience while in Branson. We were going to do that by providing them with the best Branson information, value, and personal travel services.”

She continues, “The fact that we have sold over two million Branson show and attraction tickets by passionately following that philosophy is exciting, not only from the number of tickets sold perspective, but in terms of all the great personal Branson experiences of families and individuals that the sales of those tickets represent.” Milton points out that the relationships BTC has built up with its customers over the years because of that philosophy has played a significant role in reaching the two million ticket milestone.

“But it is a team effort,” she said. “We are so thankful to be able to work with vendors and a staff of professionals who are passionately concerned and committed to each Branson visitor.” Milton explained that Branson has many quality shows, attractions and lodging facilities and the relationships that BTC has built up with them over the years enables them to work together to provide Branson guests with the best value, show seat and lodging choices and customer service.

Milton points out that Branson Tourism Center’s “flag ship” product is a personal, no service charge, concierge type service where potential customers call 1-800-875-1550 and talk with a trained BTC Travel Specialist who will assist them. The website supporting Branson Tourism Center is www.BransonTourismCenter.Com.

She continues to say that another BTC website, www.BransonOnTheWeb.com, is offered as an additional BTC service for those customers who want to make their own travel arrangement on the internet without having to talk with anyone. Milton stresses that even on this site there is a toll free number that may be used to get help and that whether purchasing tickets on line or by phone customers get the same prices, benefits, and personalized customer service for which Branson Tourism Center is noted.

“Miracle of Christmas” - a spectacular production about the most precious of Christmas gifts

November 2nd, 2009 by Gary J. Groman
Part of the spectacular ending to the "Miracle of Christmas"

Part of the spectacular ending to the "Miracle of Christmas"

Only One is still alive from that first Christmas over 2000 years ago that could bear witness to that spectacular event, but there are thousands who can bear witness to the quality and spirit of its reenactment in Sight & Sound’s spectacular production, the “Miracle of Christmas.” In drama, spectacular sets, music, and dance it conveys the spirit of the greatest miracle of all, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

The “Miracle of Christmas” is more than the nativity scene in Bethlehem. It’s an entertainment experience about God’s promise to send a Savior, how He fulfills that promise through the faithfulness of Mary and Joseph and the price His Son would ultimately pay. That entertainment experience shares the human aspect of God’s plan as he uses the faithfulness of a simple couple from Nazareth to bring His Son into the world.

It should be made clear that the “Miracle of Christmas” is a fictional account of the factual events conveyed in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. While consistent with the biblical account of the birth of Jesus and the events leading up to it, the productions has added characters and drama to enhance its entertainment value and explore the human side of the birth of Jesus.

That starts with a lively and spirited betrothal ceremony displaying the first of the shows spectacular sets, a large two story edifice surrounding a court yard in the center of Nazareth. It takes up the entire center of the 20,000 square foot 300 foot long wrap around stage. The talent of the cast is immediately apparent as Mary and Joseph sing of their love for each other and the cast joins together in a beautiful and lively celebratory dance.

It ends with flying angels and magnificent music, camels and wise men and shepherds at the manger honoring the Son of God after his birth. It is one of the most spectacular things most people will ever experience on a stage in terms of production, grandeur, entertainment, and sensory appeal. It is truly an amazing ending for a wonderful experience about what the celebration of Christmas really is all about.

In between, there is a musical drama about the times, what type of Savior some were expecting, the oppression of not only Roman rule, but King Herod, and the strictness of Jewish law and custom. However, it is the personal glimpse into the lives and relationships of the biblical characters associated with the birth of Jesus such as Simeon, Zacharias, Elizabeth, Mary and Joseph which creates the drama and, even within the context of a story that everyone knows the outcome to, suspense. The personal turmoil that Mary and Joseph, their families, and community had to work through because of the miraculous pregnancy of Mary and the faith and perseverance that it took to get from the betrothal ceremony in Nazareth to the birth of Jesus in a manager in Bethlehem is in itself a miracle.

It is a modern production miracle that the cast members; animals, from camels to horses, riders and more; flying angels coming down from on high and the effort necessary to change the spectacular sets used, come together in a production that flows as smoothly and enjoyably as this show. Combine that, with the talent of the cast, both dramatically and musically, lavish costuming and the story of the greatest gift this world has ever received and the “Miracle of Christmas” is not only an exciting entertainment spectacle, but a spiritual blessing for those who know the baby Jesus as their Lord and Savior as well as those who do not.

Daniel O’Donnell from the Barras to Branson

November 1st, 2009 by Gary J. Groman
Daniel O'Donnel in Branson Nov. 2-24.

Daniel O'Donnel will be performing in Branson Nov. 2 through Nov. 24

With Daniel O’Donnell returning to Branson November 2 through 24, a story entitled “The open but inscrutable showman,” by Keith Duggan, appearing on line October 31 at www.IrishTimes.com would be good reading for O’Donnell fans. From its take on his delivery when he sang “Whatever Happened To Old Fashioned Love?” to the type of audience he attracts, this piece provides some unique and interesting information about the man and his career.

It’s a detailed piece that covers the “Kincasslagh man” from the start of his career in 1983 and performances at The Squirrel Bar in the Barras to his stardom and eventual appearances in Branson, Missouri “the live music show capital of the world.” Among other things, the article provides insightful information about O’Donnell’s initial start in Branson, meeting Garth Brooks early in his career and his thoughts on a performance of Johnny and June Carter Cash he saw while he was in Branson.

Duggan has a neat style of writing that will hold the interest of the reader. Diehard O’Donnell fans should enjoy it and it would be an excellent primer for those planning on seeing O’Donnell perform in Branson.

Article Excerpts:

And he has subtly moved from being Margo’s younger brother, Wee Daniel, to one of the music scene’s great survivors. He has done this without once altering his sound, his message or his haircut. He has done this by standing serenely in the wake of a critical reception that has ranged from good-humoured parody to more vicious dismissal.

Then hundreds and finally thousands of Daniel acolytes came running from the prairie towns to Branson, as helpless to his charms as the women who flock to see him in Ireland and England. Now, he can sell out the big venues in Branson in advance and a television show over there is the next logical move for him. He tours for six months and spends the other six …

Branson provides a “Boo-tacular” Halloween for trick-or-treaters

October 28th, 2009 by Gary J. Groman

“A visit to Branson over the Halloween weekend provides plenty of opportunities for Halloween trick-or-treating,” said Paul Miller, General Manager for Branson Tourism Center (BTC), one of Branson’s largest and most respected vacation planning services and sellers of Branson show and attraction tickets and lodging. Paul points out that children in Branson on Halloween, whether local or visiting, will be able to dress up in costumes and have a variety of convenient safe ways to celebrate Halloween.

Branson Landing is promising a “Boo-tacular good time” at its free 3rd Annual Safe Street Trick or Treat event. Costumed children age 12 and under may trick-or-treat up and down the Branson Landing promenade from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Halloween where participating stores, identified with a Halloween sign in their window, will be handing out treats.

In addition, three other Branson malls will be having free safe alternative Halloween trick-or treat events from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. on Halloween. Participating merchants at The Factory Merchants Mall (Red Roof Mall) located off of Gretna Road, the Tanger Outlet Center and the Shoppes at Branson Meadow will give candy to costumed trick-or treaters.

One of the biggest events will be the “BOOnanza” sponsored by the city of Branson at the Branson Rec-Plex in Branson Hills between 4:30-8:00 p.m. on Halloween. BOOnanaza is for children 12 and under and will be held on the soccer field of the Rec-Plex. It includes seven events: haunted hay ride, trick-or-treat maze, pumpkin carving contest, a costume contest, jumping inflatables, kettle corn or cotton candy, and hot chocolate, lemonade, or coffee. The cost is $2.00 for a punch card good for five of the seven events and more than one card may be purchased.

A new Halloween event this year will be the “Splash Bash” at the new Castle Rock Resort and Indoor Water Park located on Green Mountain Drive. It will run from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the resort and includes the water park activities, a costume parade, games, a treat bag and more. The ““Splash Bash” is for children through age 12 and costs $20.00 per child for those not staying at the resort.

Branson Tourism Center’s Miller also reminds potential Branson visitors that the busiest time of the year is about to start in Branson and advises advance reservations be made to ensure availability and the best choices in terms of accommodations or seating at shows. For additional information on the Halloween events or Branson shows, attractions or lodging he suggests calling the Branson Tourism Center, toll free, at 1-800-785-1550.

Branson Strip lane change during construction poses little inconvenience to visitors

October 26th, 2009 by Gary J. Groman

Traffic headed east on portions of the famed Branson Strip (State Highway 76) in Branson from Monday, Oct. 26 through Friday, Oct. 30 should expect a lane change from the east bound lane into the center turn lane during the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) said the rerouting is part of a $680,000 project being funded with stimulus money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment to build 393 sidewalk ramps meeting the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

A drive down Highway 76 the morning of October 26, by a representative of the Branson Tourism Center (BTC), one of Branson’s largest and most respected sellers of Branson show and attraction tickets and lodging, indicates that the lane change will cause minimal if any inconvenience to Branson visitors. Currently the project is in the final stages, is located on the south side of Highway 76 east of its intersection with Fall Creek Road and is proceeding eastward towards its intersection with Roark Valley Road. This area is well out of the Branson Strip’s primary theatre and entertainment area.

Although the current location of the project and its hours of operation probably make an alternative route unnecessary, the completion of the Fall Creek Road extension north to its end at the intersection of Roark Valley Road provides a convenient alternate north/south route that will avoid the project area on Highway 76. Exit Highway 65 onto Highway 248 and proceed west to its intersection with James F. Epps Highway at McDonalds. Turn south on Epps and follow it south through its intersection with Roark Valley Road where it turns into Fall Creek Road on the south side of that intersection. Continue south on Fall Creek Road until its intersection with Highway 76. That intersection will be west of the project area.

According to the initial MODOT press releases, the project should be completed by November 20.
