The two day team tournament was headquartered out of the Moonshine Beach Boat Ramp on Branson’s Table Rock Lake.

Their day two 5 fish bag weighed 18.12 pounds for a combined two day bag weight of 29.94 pounds.
At the end of day one, the Dodson’s were in sixth place with a day one bag of 5 fish weighing 11.82 pounds. The Dodson’s day two total was 5 pounds more than their closest competitor and Robbie said they missed about three more bass in the four pound category.

Second place and a check for $3,000 went to the team of Mike Webb and Tim Sainato for a combined two day bag weight of 28.91 pounds. They were in second place at the end of day one with a 5 fish bag weighing 15.86 pounds. Over the two day tournament the 25 teams weighed in a total of 115 bass weighing a total of 372 pounds. Because of the emphasis put on keeping the fish caught alive all of the fish weighed in went to the Ulrich Marine catch and release boat and were returned to the lake to be caught another day.

Central Pro-Am Association’s Table Rock Lake “Team Shoot Out” location changes

October 20th, 2009 by Gary J. Groman

The Central Pro-Am Association (CPAA) will close out its very successful 2009 season with a new two day Team Shootout. Originally scheduled on October 24 & 25 out of Millcreek on Table Rock Lake the tournament has been changed to Moonshine Beach, located just north of the Table Rock Dam on State Highway 165. CPAA owner, Jim Thompson, stated the change was necessary because of Table Rocks high water levels caused by the recent rains.

Thompson said this is a special CPAA event that will pay one place for every ten boats entered. The entry fee is $500.00 per team with an optional big bass prize buy in of $20.00. Based on 50 boats participating in the tournament the payouts will be:

1st place $10,000.00
2nd place $4,000.00
3rd place  $3,000.00
4th place  $2,000.00
5th place  $1,000.00

The payouts will be adjusted according to the number of entries. Registration may be made by calling Kris Maples in the CPAA main office at (417) 335-5075 prior to 5:00 p.m. October 23 or at the ramp on the morning of October 24 prior to 6:30 a.m. Thompson said that any questions about the tournament or the CPAA can also be addressed to Kris at the same number.

Paul Miller, General Manager for the Branson Tourism Center (BTC), a CPAA sponsor and one of Branson’s largest and most respected vacation planning services and sellers of Branson show and attraction tickets and lodging reminds fishermen that this is an extremely busy time in Branson and suggests that advanced reservations be considered for lodging and shows to insure availability. Cassandre’ and orchestra - continue Branson’s live music tradition in “angelic” fashion

September 29th, 2009 by Gary J. Groman
Cassandre' singing one of her beautiful vocals

Cassandre' singing one of her beautiful vocals.

Somehow it seems fitting that the show “Cassandre’ The Voice of An Angel,” is making its Branson debut in 2009 as Branson celebrates its 50th year of live music shows. The show features the stunning vocals and warm personality of Cassandre’ Faimon-Haygood, a nine piece orchestra and the comedy of “Aunt Erma.” The result is a personable, beautiful, funny and entertaining show that truly exemplifies the very heart beat of live music through its rich orchestrations and powerful vocals. The music itself is a powerful entertainment experience, but when combined with the comedy of Aunt Erma it just gets better.

The typical story on the show would  start with its star Cassandre’, but because the orchestra and its integration into the production is such a unique and special part of the show we’ll start there. In a strict sense “choreography” involves dancing, but in terms of creating and arranging the special musical experiences that is “Cassandre’ The Voice of An Angel”, the use of the word does not seem misplaced.

The show features a a nine person orchestra that plays 18 instruments. The manner in which it is choreographed into Cassandre’s vocals results in a unique, beautiful and powerful musical treat not available anywhere else in Branson. It is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into the presentation of each number and how to best combine the vocal talents of Casssandre’ with the musicianship of the orchestra into a wonderful musical entertainment gem.

The success of that collaboration is evident throughout the show in numbers such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Fever,” “Sky Dawn Sun Moon,” “Danny Boy” and so many more. The orchestra members are Jr Rollins — Cello/ Upright Bass; Chris Lizotte — Keyboards/ Trumpets; Gary Freeman — Piano; Tom Eckert — Violin/ Trumpet, Catherine Haygood — Violin/ Harp/ Saxophone; Seth Darby — Standup and Electric Bass; George Williams — Viola; Dino Phillips — Drums and Carl Mckiney — Guitars.

The featured vocalist and star of the show is Cassandre’ Faimon-Haygood. After listening to this amazing vocalist sing this writer would simply have to say that the shows website was spot on in describing her voice, range, and talent. It said, “Cassandre’ is a top-notch vocalist …with a voice so flawless and a performance so effortless and compelling it is no wonder that watching her sing makes for a surreal theatrical experience! She is truly an enchanting soprano whose angelic voice can scale operatic heights, belt out Broadway hits, touch you with gospel inspiration, and rework pop classics in just the right balance!”

From the first notes of the opening “Aria,” written by her husband and producer of the show, Timothy Haygood, through numbers like “Danny Boy,” “Zippa dee doo dah” and “Hakuna Matata,” “Amazing Grace,” “Downtown,” “Yesterday,” “Singin In The Rain, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and many others, the accuracy of that description was obvious. She has a very special talent that is a joy to hear.

Aunt Erma looking for "her peoples."

Aunt Erma looking for "her peoples."

Then there’s Cassandre’s alter ego, “Aunt Erma,” who keeps popping up looking for “her peoples.” If the way the audience laughs at some of her antics is any indication “her peoples” make up a large part of the audience. She does a very special rendition of the “Nine To Five” and will remind the audience a lot of Cassandre’. On her blog Cassandre’ said, “We are just having a great time together!” The audience has a great time with them together too.

If you love beautiful singing accompanied by a wonderful orchestra and want to have a laugh or two along the way you don’t want to miss this show. In addition, one can sense her sweet spirit and her total commitment to giving her best to her audience. In the case of the Cassandre’ and her show, that best results in a special and memorable musical and entertainment experience that is a joy to hear and see.

Branson to have dazzling fireworks displays like none other

September 19th, 2009 by Press Release

The American Pyrotechnics Association (APA) makes its way to Branson, MO, next week to hold its Annual Meeting and Convention. And what can you expect from the premier trade association of the fireworks industry holding its annual convention? Dazzling fireworks displays like none other and an amazing trade show where fireworks retailers, importers and suppliers show off their latest wares.

According to APA Executive Director, Julie L. Heckman, “We are delighted to bring our annual convention to Branson, where we have felt so welcome by that beloved mid-west Missouri spirit. Missouri is a fireworks-friendly state, allowing the full array of consumer fireworks which are stringently regulated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, for sale and use by the general public.”

During the APA convention, professional fireworks companies from all over the world (U.S., Canada, Mexico, China, Italy, Australia, Spain, United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Japan) will gather to learn the latest in safety, display design, choreography and regulatory requirements. They will hear from local speakers: Mayor Raeanne Presley, and Jim Hagale, CEO of Bass Pro Shops, on how the fireworks industry supports the local economy; and from U.S. Congress Representative, Roy Blunt, along with a variety of U.S. Federal regulators on legislative and compliance initiatives. “Most people only think about fireworks one day a year, July 4th, but the fireworks industry is an incredibly complicated and stringently regulated industry,” said Ms. Heckman.

In Branson, locals can enjoy two wonderful evenings of fireworks displays produced by APA members. Friday, September 25, 2009, APA members will be firing up the sky at The Branson Landing, a $425 million dollar waterfront shopping, dining and entertainment destination located in Historic Downtown Branson along the beautiful Lake Taneycomo. The evening’s festivities will kick off at 8:00 p.m. with a LIVE Concert featuring performances by Clay Cooper & The Clay Cooper Music Express Band with special guest STARS, Collin Raye, Barbara Fairchild, Dusty Rogers and the Liverpool Legends. What to look for: at approximately 9:15 p.m. a beautifully orchestrated “close proximity” / roof top fireworks display, choreographed to a lively “gaming” theme, and at 10:15 p.m. a grand fireworks finale on the waterfront fired from a barge featuring a tribute to “Beatles Love” – followed by an unforgettable live performance from the Liverpool Legends, who together provide the Ultimate Beatles Tribute Show. For more information about the fireworks event in partnership with The Branson Landing.

On Saturday, the APA will open its trade show to the general public (admission is free) from 9 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Hilton Branson Convention Center. And the big signature showcase, or APA’s fireworks finale, will occur on Saturday night at 9:45 p.m. at Moon Shine Beach (located near Table Rock Dam), fired over Table Rock Lake, in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Table Rock Dam. The Missouri Department of Transportation, Missouri Highway Patrol and U.S. Army Corp of Engineers will oversee access and parking in the area.

Ms. Heckman said, “We look forward to our time in Branson and we hope to delight the community with amazing fireworks that leave a lasting impression for all, fireworks at their finest! Please join us and see what the premier trade association of the fireworks industry, APA, has to offer.”

The APA is the leading trade association of the fireworks industry. The APA supports and promotes safety standards for all aspects of fireworks. The APA has a diverse membership including regulated and licensed manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, importers, suppliers and professional public display companies.

BTC Branson Bits - First there was Table Rock Dam

September 11th, 2009 by Gary J. Groman

A rare site, even if only incrementally, water being released from all ten of Table Rock Lake Dam in 2008.

A rare site, even if only incrementally. Water being released from all ten of the flood control gates of the Table Rock Lake Dam in 2008.

“50 years of live music shows” is not the only 50th anniversary Branson is celebrating this year. Along with the Baldknobbers starting Branson’s first live music show in 1959 there was the completion of Table Rock Dam which was officially dedicated on June 19, 1959. The two primary purposes for building the dam was flood control and the generation of electric power.

The 6,423 foot long dam rises an impressive 252 feet above its White River riverbed. The concrete portion of the dam is 1,602 feet long and its earth embankment adds another 4,821 feet. It has 10 spillway crest gates each is incrementally controlled and capable of releasing 50,000 cubic feet of water per second for flood control purposes. Since the dam was completed, as shown in the accompanying photo taken during 2008, there have been times when all 10 of its flood gates have been open, but only incrementally. There has never been a release from Table Rock Dam that has exceeded the capacity of just one of its ten flood gates or the major downstream flooding that occurred prior to the construction of the dam.

The dam has four generating units which are used to both generate electricity and for flood control purposes. Each generating unit is capable of releasing 3,750 cubic feet of water per second and generating 50,000 kilowatts of power.
The impoundment created by the Table Rock Dam, Table Rock Lake and its 43,100 square acres and 745 miles of shoreline added an exciting water element to the Branson area. Generation of electricity and flood control aside, Table Rock Lake has become an inherent vital part of what makes Branson the unique entertainment destination it is, but like Branson’s live music shows it had a beginning and for Table Rock Lake that beginning was Table Rock Dam.

An excellent view of the Dam, its generation units and the Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery is available from the viewing area just off the south end of the dam on its downstream side. There is plenty of parking and is the location where the accompanying photo was taken.
